This headquarters office for Sears Merchandise Group in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, houses the management operation of the Sears retail stores. The buying offices are divided into hard lines – appliances, automotive and home improvement – and the soft lines – wearing apparel and home fashions. Back-up support such as accounting, credit systems, public relations, field operations support, and facilities/real estate will also be part of this complex. On all office floors, a fifty percent electrified deck was installed for communications and a LAN network that supports computers at each work station. Other facilities include a cafeteria with dining rooms for 2,000 people, a fitness center, a TV production area, and a stand-alone day-care center for 200 children from infants to pre-school.
